ABSTRACT

Pulp and paper industry are one of the vast natural sources holding industry which provides raw materials. At the same time, the management of the harvested leaves after pulpwood extraction has not yet been utilized properly other than incineration. By managing the leftout waste leaves, natural dyes from Melia dubia was successfully extracted and dyed on wool fabric. Copper sulphate, Alum, Ferrous sulphate, Potassium dichromate, Nickle sulphate, Tartaric acid, Tannic acid, Nacl and Vinegar were used as mordants. The dyeing was carried out with and without mordants by post mordanting method. The colour fastness to washing, rubbing (dry & wet), light and perspiration were tested according to ISO standards. The colour fastness to washing and dry rubbing were excellent whereas wet rubbing shows was good expect unmordanted fabric which showed moderate to good fastness. The light fastness and perspiration were good for all mordanted fabrics expect unmordanted fabric which showed moderate to good fastness. The present study executes ways to utilize and get benefit out of forestry industrial wastes as natural dye for textile industry.
