ABSTRACT

This study focusses the antimicrobial properties of leaf and stem extracts of Mukia maderaspatana which have been tested against some bacterial and fungal strains. Antimicrobial activity of leaf extract with ethanol and chloroform has high degree of inhibition against Klebsiella pneumoniae. Chloroform and ethanol extracts have high degree of inhibitory action against Rhizopus sp. and Aspergillus flavus respectively. Stem extracts with acetone and ethanol have high degree of inhibition against Pseudomonas putida, E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. In the case of pathogenic fungus, stem extracts with ethanol showed high degree of inhibition against Rhizopus sp. and also same effect with Aspergillus flavus.
