ABSTRACT

The present communication incorporates updated data on species richness and host-plant range of Thrips-fauna of Jammu & Kashmir State. A total of 30 species of Thrips, belonging to 22 genera, including species other than those under genus Thrips, pertaining to sub-order Terebrantia and family Thripidae, have been encountered from various localities of this region, damaging about 54 host-plant species, belonging to 49 plant genera. The host-plant species also include valuable crops (food,vegetable,fruit, fodder), forest trees and other economically important plants- medicinal/ herbs, aromatic, ornamental,etc. Besides, an annotated checklist of the thrips species of the region, with their host- plant species and distribution, has been added.
