ABSTRACT

The effect of Brassinosteroids (BRs) on productivity and biochemicals on tomato were studied under pot culture conditions. The BRs were very effective in improving the productivity and biochemicals at maturity (65 DAP). The BRs treated plants were healthier than those treated with water as control and yield more. The increase over control was observed with lower concentrations, especially in 0.1, 1 and 3 ppm, on various growth parameters, like number, fresh weight, girth and selflife of the fruits. The influence of BRs were associated with enhanced level of protein, total soluble sugar and ascorbic acid contents in fruits in lower concentrations (0.1, 1, 3 ppm), but failed to produce positive results with the higher concentrations (7 and 10 ppm).
