ABSTRACT

Obesity is not an immediate lethal disease itself, but is a significant risk factor associated with a range of serious non-communicable diseases and conditions like increased risk of coronary heart disease. We undertook this study to find out the prevalence of overweight obesity in school children of Shahjahanpur and to look for other contributing factors aggravating this problem. The sampling was done by stratified random protocol. The study population includes children of urban public school and rural government schools in Shahjahanpur. Total sample size was 2067 that include both boys and girls in age group of 8 to 13 years Anthropometric measurements were taken to calculate BMI, Waist Hip ratio(WHR) and total body fat percentage (TBF%).
