ABSTRACT

The present study was conducted for the evaluation of antimicrobial activity of soil sample collected from Arogyadham, Jabalpur. Physicochemical analysis of soil was done for the assessment of different parameters like pH, moisture content, organic carbon, organic matter and organic nitrogen. Six actinomycetes were isolated. The soil sample has slightly alkaline pH, high moisture content and moderate organic matter, organic carbon and organic nitrogen. Results of antimicrobial screening showed that actinomycetes isolates Ar2 and Ar3 exhibited maximum activity against test organisms. Ar2 possessed highest antagonism against D. carbonum and Ar3 against E. coli. Taxonomic characterization was done on the basis of gram staining, slide culture technique and biochemical characterization.
