ABSTRACT

The fruit extracts of T. bellerica locally known as Bahera, and T. chebula known as Harra, two medicinally important plants were studied in different solvent extracts against four human pathogens viz Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris ,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The in-vitro antibacterial activity was performed by disc diffusion technique and highest zone of inhibition i.e 18 mm was recorded by petroleum ether extract of fruits of T. bellirica against P. aeruginosa. Petroleum ether extract of T. chebula also recorded good results against the same pathogen. Ethanolic extract of T. bellerica was also quite effective against S. aureus.

Key words : T. bellirica, T. chebula, antibacterial activity, disc diffusion technique, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus.
