ABSTRACT

The Bagmara Forest Block is located in the southernmost part of Sundarbans Tiger Reserve (STR). It is one of the 15 Blocks present in the STR and situated within the ‘Core area’ of STR with 8 different compartments designated as 1 to 8. The floral diversity in the form of mangroves, mangrove associated plants, back mangroves, beach flora and different kinds of parasites, epiphytes, mistletoes were studied extensively and documented. A total no. of 62 plant species were collected, identified and recorded on the basis of their distributional pattern, dominance and different kinds of association groups. Out of 62 species, 22 species appeared to be true mangrove, 21 species were mangrove associated plants, 11 were back mangroves, 5 were beach flora and 3 were parasitic. 37 association groups were determined. The objective of the study is to help the forester and scientist by giving the actual status of the floral composition of that particular Block of STR.
