ABSTRACT

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act MGNREGA, 2005 guaranteed 100 days ofemployment in a financial year to rural household whose adult members are willing to do unskilled manual work. This act is an important step towards the realization of the right to work. In Tamil Nadu, this act was launched on February2nd, 2006 and was initiallyimplemented in six districts followed by 1st April, 2007 onwards implemented in four more districts and finally1st April, 2008 it was extended to the remaining all other districts. Training needs are vital for MGNREGS beneficiaries as they play a crucial role in enhancing their employability, productivity, and overall livelihoods. By acquiring new skills, beneficiaries can access better job opportunities, increase their earnings, and develop sustainable livelihoods, reducing their dependence on casual labor. Training also empowers beneficiaries, especially women, to take charge of their lives, make informed decisions, and negotiate better wages. Moreover, it promotes social inclusion, improves overall well-being, and enables beneficiaries tocontribute to their community’s growth and development. Effective training also ensures that beneficiaries can effectively utilize government schemes, resources, and entitlements, building their capacity to manage their own livelihoods. The present study entitled “SWOT Analysis on Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme MGNREGS in Dharmapuri District” was undertaken to study the profile characteristics of MGNREGS beneficiaries. The objectives of the study are To assess the Training needs of MGNREGS beneficiaries, To assess the relationship ofsocio-personal characteristics with Training needs of MGNREGS beneficiaries and To conduct SWOT analysis of MGNREGS in Dharmapuri district. The present study was taken up in Harur block of Dharmapuri district. Proportionate random sampling procedure was applied to select one hundred and twenty respondents from the selected Panchayat Villages.
