Evaluation of the prebiotic potential of Mangifera indica L. leaf extract

ABSTRACT
In the present investigation, it was attempted to establish the prebiotic potential of Mangifera indica mucilage and also perform the proximate analysis of the extracted mucilage. Mangifera mucilage was extracted from the leaves in yield of 5.1% by weight of dry leaf powder. The mucilage was also evaluated for its DPPH radical scavenging potential and its resistance to hydrolysis by gastric juice (acidic hydrolysis) or by α-amylase (enzymatic hydrolysis).
