ABSTRACT
Chrononutrition is the study of the importance of meal timing relative to dietary quality and quantity in the promotion of metabolic health. Recent findings indicate that synchronizing food consumption with the circadian rhythm has consequences for glucose homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, hormonal regulation, digestive physiology and cardiometabolic health. In addition, the diet principles are described in Ahara Vidhi Vidhana in Ayurveda, which states that one should eat at the right time when the digestive system is ready, in the right quantity and mindfully. To critically review the evidence on chrononutrition and circadian physiology, and to explore their conceptual association with Ayurvedic principles of Ahara Vidhi Vidhana.
